The Chiefs will play the Jacksonville Jaguars at TIAA Bank Stadium on Saturday night, and Reid said that quarterback Patrick Mahomes and tight end Travis Kelce will start the game.

Fans should expect to see only Mahomes and Kelce on Saturday in the first quarter.

“As far as the play time for this game, we’ll go the ones for a quarter,” said Reid.

“Twos for the second quarter, threes the third quarter, and fours for the fourth quarter, and we’ll just keep it at that.”

Mahomes is looking forward to getting some playing time in the first game of the preseason.

It’s cool, I like playing in the preseason, honestly,” Mahomes said.

“Make sure we’re doing stuff in the right way and getting out keeping everybody healthy and playing the sport that I love.

“Hopefully, we can go out there and play a good football game.

“I always want to get hit, but not hit hard. A little nudge, that’s all I need.”

Reid is confident the offense will pick up right where it left off after winning a second straight Super Bowl.

“Listen, I allow him to get into the swing of things. The ones know how to do that, both sides of the ball,” Reid said.

Fans took to social media to weigh in on the unique decision as most starting quarterbacks don’t play until the final preseason game.

Last season, Mahomes appeared on just one scoreless drive in a 26-24 preseason loss to the New Orleans Saints.

Meanwhile, Reid looks forward to seeing how the younger players and draft picks compete on Saturday.

I’m gonna play everybody. All those young guys, I’d love to see how they compete,” said Reid.

“The higher draft picks are gonna be in there [against] a little bit better competition, so I want to see how they handle that.”
