“‘A Tyrant’: Ex-FBI Chief James Comey Unloads on Trump After Indictment—Read His Explosive Reaction”
Former FBI Director James Comey issued one of his most forceful condemnations yet of President Donald Trump following his federal indictment — calling out what he described as the use of fear and power against political opponents and warning that Americans should not live “on their knees.”
On Sept. 25, 2025, a federal grand jury in Alexandria, Virginia, returned a two-count indictment against Comey, alleging he made a false statement to Congress and obstructed a congressional proceeding related to his 2020 testimony about FBI practices. While the charges were limited in scope, they marked an unprecedented escalation in legal actions targeting a former top law enforcement official.
Comey’s Defiant Response
In a video posted on social media shortly after the indictment, Comey declared his innocence and offered a stark warning about the broader implications of the case:
“My heart is broken for the Department of Justice, but I have great confidence in the federal judicial system, and I’m innocent… We will not live on our knees and you shouldn’t either.”
Comey also quoted a remark from his daughter — who herself was abruptly fired from her job as a federal prosecutor earlier in 2025 — saying that “fear is the tool of a tyrant.” He referenced that line directly, insisting he would not be cowed by what he sees as a politically motivated prosecution.
That quote struck a chord in his message: “Somebody that I love dearly recently said that fear is the tool of a tyrant — and she is right… But I am not afraid.” Comey’s comments resonated with his supporters as a broader critique of what they view as an erosion of justice department independence and rule-of-law norms under the Trump administration.
